On April 26, we invite you to escape to 19th-century Japan on the preview day of the exhibition 東海道 Tōkaidō: Dreamscapes by Andō Hiroshige.Through the prints comprising the series "Fifty-three Stations of theTōkaidō," inspired by travel guides in circulation in the 18th century, discover how Hiroshige and his publishing team masterfully recast a landscape into a dreamscape. Be among the first to admire this series that prompted thousands to take the 490-kilometre journey from Edo (Tokyo) to Kyōto and catapulted the artist to worldwide renown. Kept away from light, in storage for the past two decades, these works will make their grand return to the Museum's galleries this spring, but only for a few months.
