Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Michele Larose, artist and paediatric neuropsychiatrist who trained in psychiatry and child psychiatry at McGill and in visual arts at Curtin University in Australia, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine has established an artist-in-residence programme.

At the McCord Museum: New exhibition starting March 31. Photographer and filmmaker Joannie Lafrenière –a proud resident of Hochelaga for some 20 years–offers a colourful, sensitive portrait of the neighbourhood as she takes viewers on an immersive photographic and cinematographic journey. Discover this exhibition that documents a place but also the relationships people have with a neighbourhood that has undergone many transformations over time.
Joannie interviewed on CBC’s All in a Weekend: Photographer and filmmaker, Joannie Lafrenière, talks about her latest exhibit of photographs and short films from the 18 years that she's been living in the Montreal borough of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. She talks about the way she first felt part of the community and why she started documenting the neighbourhood's people and places.

We (Sonali Karnick of CBC’s All in a Weekend) speak with one of the producers of the inaugural edition of GiggleFest, Michelle Forrester about the comedy festival in Montreal's Sud-Ouest region, featuring local comedians. We also hear from Mariam Khan, a comedian who is the co-host of the interactive show "Better Than Your Therapist" where the audience can ask for very unprofessional advice on a life issue from a panel of comedians.

McGill Library: Hybrid Event: 'What a nuisance sex is!': Women Plant Collectors in the 19th Century.

Women botanists and plant collectors roamed North America looking for plant specimens to share, to sell, and to display in the late 19th century. As we learn their stories, we’ll explore why botany was a scientific pursuit that, while vastly popular with both sexes, was seen as a study particularly suited to women, and we’ll look at the ways that women used their botanical knowledge as a way to secure employment for themselves out in the frontier.

Christine has been working on a book for her friend Brenda Kennedy. It is a retrospective of her artwork from 1980 to 2022 and you can see a preview of the whole book online. Right now, Blurb is offering a discount of 31% on the printing until April 5th, if you’re interested in ordering a hardcopy. Fashion Upcycling Challenge:
In honour of Fashion Revolution Week, Fashion Revolution Canada is hosting a Student Upcycling Challenge and I will be supporting this important initiative as a judge. The contest is open to any student in Canada attending a high-school, post-secondary or continuing education program. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Deadline for submissions is April 7th.
