From the world’s leading forest ecologist who forever changed how people view trees and their connections to one another and to other living things in the forest–a moving, deeply personal journey of discovery.

Suzanne Simard has spent a lifetime trying to understand the secret societies of trees — how they work together, help each other and even how they speak to one another. Simard is a professor of forest ecology at the University of British Columbia. She tells us about her work, what it means for old-growth forests amid a climate emergency and her new book Finding the Mother Tree.

From Coursera: This course is part of the Modern and Contemporary Art and Design Specialization - Seeing Through Photographs

Taking, sharing, and viewing photographs has become second nature for many of us. Given our near-constant engagement with images this course will help you dig into the meaning of pictures and reconsider photography’s role in our visual culture. This course aims to address the gap between seeing and truly understanding photographs by introducing a diversity of ideas, approaches, and technologies that inform their making. In this course you will look closely at 100 photographs from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, going behind the scenes of the Museum and into artist studios through original films and audio interviews.

Remember these?

Welcome to the Montréal Signs Project, a permanent exhibition of commercial and civic signs in the CJ building on Concordia University’s Loyola campus. Since 2010, the MSP’s collection has provided fascinating insights into Montréal’s everyday cultural histories via its sign heritage. From personal memories of specific neighbourhoods to larger questions of migration and entrepreneurship, to the hidden stories of sign makers, the MSP attempts to address many of these questions through research and media creation.
