POP Montreal 2021 will be a hybrid festival, in-person and virtual. For in-person concerts, the current Covid-19 protocols will be applied, and a health pass will be required at the entrance of the concerts. If you are planning to attend a performance, you MUST purchase your tickets online in advance. There will be no tickets available at the door.
We will also have our Art POP exhibition on the third floor of the Rialto, Puces POP at Église Saint-Denis, conferences and discussions with POP Symposium at the Rialto, Film POP at Cinéma Moderne and at L’Entrepôt77 (ciné-concert) as well as Kids POP at Parc Saint-Viateur. Dancing outside!
From September 16 to 26, Place des Arts is transforming its outdoor Esplanade into a huge open-air dancefloor for its L’Art en soi Festival. The L’Art en soi Festival’s eight days of fun will offer something for everyone, with six evenings of dancing, hosted by Philippe Fehmiu: Bollywood, Charleston, house, cumbia, swing, and traditional Haitian dance. Each dance evening will begin at 7 pm with a friendly introductory workshop led by professional dancers who will teach participants the basic steps of each of the six styles in the spotlight. Newly acquired skills can then be put into practice during the event following the workshop at 8 pm, featuring musicians performing live on-site!
On Sundays, the Esplanade will be transformed into a joyful play area for youngster for the two Family Days. Hosted by characters Gaspart and Dahlia, this family day is focused on fun and dancing, in a lively and exciting playground atmosphere! Workshops for the whole family will get everyone to explore hidden talents—theatrical hopscotch, urban dance, hula hoop, prop making, singing and more!

When entomologist Gil Wizen took photos of a mosquito biting his knuckle, he wanted to show how beautiful it can be. Now his photo of the tiny metallic-coloured insect has been honoured in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
Ontario photopgrapher Gil Wizen has received a commendation from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards for this photo of a Sabethes mosquito that he snapped in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.

Mexican photographer Alejandro Prieto's image of a bird at the US-Mexico border wall has won a prestigious photo contest. Mr Prieto was named the grand prize winner of the Bird Photographer of the Year competition after his image was selected from 22,000 entries. His winning photograph depicts a roadrunner bird that has stopped in front of the wall.

The restoration of a 17th-century portrait by Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer has uncovered a large portrait of Cupid in its background where once only a bare white wall stood. Uta Neidhardt, senior curator at Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, Germany, tells Peter Armstrong that overseeing the restoration has been the most sensational experience of her career.
