International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music - MUTEK Montréal Edition 26: A New Cycle, from Tuesday, August 19 to Sunday, August 24, 2025. For 25 years, MUTEK has explored new horizons in electronic music and digital arts. Our quarter-century milestone is not a destination. It marks the beginning of a new cycle in which we invite you to continue experimenting, questioning, and pushing the boundaries of digital artistic expression alongside us. For six days, artists and audiences from here and abroad will gather in the Quartier des Spectacles for a unique experience blending sound, visuals, and innovation. Staying true to its inclusive spirit, esplanade Tranquille will once again become the festival’s beating heart with free outdoor performances every evening from 5 p.m. On-site programming will spotlight major names and emerging talents in the global electronic scene with immersive scenographies in iconic venues: the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT], Place des Arts’ Théâtre Maisonneuve, and MTELUS.

Something to think about:

We've heard news stories about issues surrounding the estates of artists after they've passed away and not just well-known artists. Art market specialist and appraiser, Kelly Juhasz, is the owner of Fine Art Appraisal and Services. We spoke with her this week to explain how artists and their loved ones can prepare to manage their legacies and estate.

The West Island Art Studio Circuit (WIASC; in French the CAAOI, or Circuit d’ateliers d’art de l’Ouest-de-l’Île) is proud to present its inaugural season, opening with a not to be missed event. On August 16, 2025 (Aug. 17 in case of rain), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the WIASC Open Studio Day will offer a rare glimpse into the creative spaces of 11 visual artists across the West Island of Montreal. Founded, organized, and initially funded by WASM member and Disabled artist Sandra Woods, the WIASC is meant to expand to include more professional artists and studios in 2026. Due to her Mild Cognitive Impairment, from one of her two rare diseases, Sandra opted to start small this year with about a dozen studios. See www.wiasc.ca for details, or follow on social media at @caaoi_wiasc (or similar); BlueSky, Facebook (event), Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter).

Note for artists interested in participating in the 2026 edition: Sandra Woods will be reaching out to the various West Island art associations and WASM by early autumn 2025, to ask them to forward an invitation to apply for WIASC 2026 to their active members. Note that WIASC artists must meet all criteria:

. Professional visual artist, under the RAAV or CCA;

. Visual art studio in the West Island, including Ile-Bizard, no further east than Dorval, DdO, or Pierrefonds (i.e., not Lachine, Lasalle, Saint-Laurent);

. Active member of at least one West Island art association (e.g., Artists Circle, AAD, BAA, DAA, KAA, LAA), or WASM (and possibly AIM); and

. Able to firmly commit to both 2026 WIASC dates (likely in mid-August, to be confirmed in the invitation to apply); withdrawal after acceptance may lead to being barred from future events.
