Explore and meet the Museum's teams of experts and learn more about their work and their discoveries through blog articles, video interviews, behind-the-scenes photos, and much more!

The new exhibit at the McCord Stewart Museum takes us into the colourful, creative, and sometimes problematic world of costume balls between 1870 and 1927. We speak with Cynthia Cooper, Head of Collections and Research Curator, Dress, Fashion and Textiles, the curator of this exhibit about what she describes as the project of a lifetime.

Why is it Alexa, not Alex? A century of hard-coded sexism in tech, experts say. Alexa, Siri, Cortana and other digital assistants are built on a century of seeing computers as women. If you're one of the millions of people who use digital assistants like Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa or Microsoft's Cortana, you might notice that they're almost always named after, and voiced by, women. According to several experts, that's no accident. These digital assistants are designed to be attentive, sometimes submissive, and sometimes even sexy.

Cortana, a sentient artificial intelligence, appears in Halo 4 for the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console. Microsoft named its digital assistant program after Cortana. (343 Industries/Microsoft)
