Urban tours - HISTORY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS. The Urban Tours on the Musée McCord Museum application, presented by Ivanhoé Cambridge, provide a fun way to learn more about the history of certain Montreal sites:



A glance at the Photography collection - At the beginning of the 20th century, demand for housing was high in Montreal, which nearly tripled in population between 1890 and 1920 and land had increased in value. In growing working-class neighbourhoods like Griffintown, single-family houses were gradually being replaced by new styles of dwelling – the duplex and the triplex:

Barbara Iweins is a Belgian photographer who has started her artistic career in Amsterdam where she has lived for a number of years. A collector since a tender age, Barbara continues to classify, and gather and archive her photographic subjects according to strict criteria. She says,

“As a neurotic collector, collecting, ordering, categorizing, and exhibiting things have always given me immense pleasure. I think that I am mainly looking for an aesthetic emotion in the assemblage of things (or ideas) that at first glance might seem incongruous or even tasteless.”
