Stay safe if you watch the skies on Monday. What do you need to know about the upcoming eclipse?

People across North America will be looking skyward Monday. The solar eclipse has been making headlines for months. If you’re in Montreal, the eclipse begins at: 2:14 p.m. The total eclipse will be at: 3:27 p.m. and it ends at 4:36 p.m. Montreal is in the path of totality. CBC's Rachel Watts wrote a story on our website with all you need to know. We also spoke to her about it.

Eclipse fans head to Quebec as a clear sky forecast promises a dazzling view. Photographer cancels trip to Texas to stay in Quebec for optimal viewing. Evan Zucker and his wife, Paula Eisenhart, are lugging 12 cameras, 10 tripods and three telescopes from their home in San Diego all the way up to Quebec to try to catch the best view of the total solar eclipse on April 8.

Evan Zucker and Paula Eisenhart have travelled to view several eclipses over the past few years.  This year, they are driving to Sherbrooke, Que., from their home in San Diego. (Submitted by Evan Zucker)

How will animals react to the eclipse? Researchers have noticed some surprising behaviour from animals during previous eclipses, from galloping giraffes to mating tortoises. Biologist Adam Hartstone-Rose tells us why he’ll be watching how the natural world reacts to Monday’s eclipse.

The U.S. won’t see another solar eclipse until 2044, so Hartstone-Rose wants to gather as much data on animal behavior as possible from all over North America on April 8. He’s collaborating with Caren Cooper, a professor of forestry and environmental resources, and Kelly Lynn Mulvey, an associate professor of psychology, on a citizen science component of the study called Solar Eclipse Safari. Anyone in North America — including you — can participate.
