Congratulations to the 2021/22 Salt Spring National Art Prize Finalists!
Drawing from every region across the country and Canadian citizens abroad, SSNAP jurors have created an exhibition as inclusive, diverse, and culturally rich as Canada itself. The courage it takes for artists to step forward and share their vision is commendable. The four national jurists selected the 52 finalist artworks from this diverse representation; artists were anonymous to the jury.
The finalist artwork will be revealed to the public at the opening of the SSNAP Exhibition on September 24, 2021.
The Salt Spring National Art Prize Exhibition will run from September 24 – October 25, 2021.

The McClure Gallery is currently accepting submissions for its 2021-2022 exhibition program.
Contemporary artists of all media and curators with an exhibition proposal are invited to apply. Artists who have shown in the gallery within the last five years or less should wait before submitting an exhibition proposal. In keeping with its mandate, the McClure Gallery prioritizes submissions from contemporary artists living in the province of Quebec but does not exclude artists from other provinces or countries. As a contemporary art centre located in the dynamic neighbourhood of Mile End, Diagonale presents an annual program of exhibitions, conferences, and artist talks. Curators, critics, and visual and media artists are invited to submit their projects.
Thinking as a plastic and reflexive object, the call for submissions is aimed at projects that incorporate the fibres, either in terms of material, concept or referentiality.
In order to revive the exploratory aspect of the projects originally presented in artist-run centers, Diagonale also encourages new ways of thinking art and alternative forms of/to "exhibitions".

Venice Biennale 2022 – The Milk of Dreams is the title of The 59th International Art Exhibition.
The President of La Biennale di Venezia, Roberto Cicutto, and the Curator of the 59th International Art Exhibition, Cecilia Alemani – appointed as the Artistic Director of the Visual Arts Department by the former Board of Directors on January 10, 2020 –, announced the title and theme of the Biennale Arte 2022, which will be held from 23 April to 27 November 2022 (pre-opening on 20, 21, 22 April) in the Giardini, at the Arsenale, and at various sites around Venice. The 59th International Art Exhibition will be titled The Milk of Dreams. This name is borrowed from a book by Leonora Carrington, in which, as Cecilia Alemani says, “the Surrealist artist describes a magical world where life is constantly re-envisioned through the prism of the imagination, and where everyone can change, be transformed, become something and someone else. The exhibition takes us on an imaginary journey through metamorphoses of the body and definitions of humanity.”

Be part of our online summer 2021 exhibition and ‘art book’. All selected STILL LIFE works will be included in an online slide show and publication.
For this CALL FOR ENTRY, the Aird is enlisting contemporary artists’ vibrant interpretations of the STILL LIFE genre. All pieces, be they created using paint, mixed media, collage, photography, sculpture, and/or new media that reflect on this art-historical reference and how it appears as a stand-in for nature, or an analysis of culture will be considered. The intent of this call is to bring together a large array of works that encourage a rethinking of the traditionally narrow definition of ‘still life’.

The Festival Quartiers Danses, whose mission is to democratize contemporary dance in all its forms, has announced the programming for its new hybrid edition featuring an all-Montreal lineup!

Le show drôlement musical is a 40-minute-long sound and light happening, showcasing singers, dancers, a host and a DJ.
Comprising five distinct segments which will make us travel through various themes, the spectacle will delve through a comedic and musical universe supported by the fountains of the Esplanade of the Place des Arts. For her part, DJ Debbie Tebbs will mix on her turntables funny songs, earworms, as well as sampling of classic sentences, all punctuated by musical ambiances and light shows. The Opéra de Montréal will be webcasting one of its most large-scale recent productions, Carmen by Bizet.
Presented in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in 2019, this great classic of the repertoire is the result of a collaboration with Quebec filmmaker Charles Binamé, who directed the production. From March 19, 2021, To March 19, 2022. Ticket purchase required.
