Her primary source of inspiration is nature, which translates into a strong attraction to the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, their architecture, and the nobility of their landscapes. Her secondary inspiration stems from a respectful and admiring admiration for the beauty and elegance of the horse.
From childhood, the beautiful ancestral regions of Morocco were etched into Latifa's memory and heart. On the mountainsides, kasbahs of natural earth resonated within her soul and gave depth to her artistic quest. She wonders: Are we not all made of earth? The sub-Saharan regions, the Middle Atlas, and the High Atlas awaken in Latifa Boussikouk a spiritual sense of existential strength, resilience, contrast, depth, and authenticity. Through a palette of monochrome, ochre, and sienna, she attempts to capture what speaks to her: the sublime, the imperceptible, the wondrous.
Her second source of inspiration is the horse, an animal closely linked to human history and its evolution, which deeply resonates with Latifa. A symbol of power, charisma, and grace, whether a workhorse or a thoroughbred, the horse plays diverse roles. A central character in oriental tales and proverbs, or an honored guest at grand ceremonies such as fantasias or the "Tbourida," the horse is part of Moroccan heritage; an emblem of beauty, majesty, and pride.
Latifa's work is characterized by an organic, softened geometry that blends with the mountains and hills. The inlay of gold leaf, which she incorporates into most of her pieces, represents the richness of its color, its durability, its luminosity, and its place in history.
In 2022, Latifa decided to take on a new challenge by venturing into children's illustration. She illustrated, in watercolor, "Tahir the Beautiful Peacock of Agadir," a story by Marie-Denise Douyon. With watercolor she enjoys representing certain soft, light and transparent works, but with a lot of depth.
