Katherine Kroo

Kathryn Gabinet-Kroo is originally from the Pacific Northwest and grew up revelling in Oregon’s flowers, trees, beaches and mountains. After university, she studied black-and-white photography in Boston and then found her way to Montreal. There, Kathryn began to experiment with watercolours and oils, which opened her up to colour. A self-taught painter, she developed her own realist techniques. The repetition of patterns found in nature remains a constant in this artist’s work.

Kathryn has exhibited across the U.S. and Canada and taught at the Saidye Bronfman Centre until the school’s closing in 1996. She is also a published literary translator and competitive ballroom dancer!

Kathryn Gabinet-Kroo est originaire du nord-ouest du Pacifique and a grandi se délectant dans les fleurs, les arbres, la côte et les montagnes d’Oregon. Après avoir complété un baccalauréat ès lettres, elle a étudié la photographie en noir et blanc à Boston puis a déménagé à Montréal. Là, Kathryn a commencé à travailler l’aquarelle puis l’huile, ce qui l’a ouvert le monde de couleur. Peintre autodidacte, elle a développé ses propres techniques réalistes. La répétition de motifs qui trouvent leur origine dans la nature est un thème constant dans les œuvres de cette artiste.

Ses œuvres se retrouvent dans des collections au Canada et aux États-Unis. Elle a enseigné le dessin et la peinture au Centre des Arts Saidye Bronfman jusqu’à sa fermeture en 1996. Elle est également traductrice littéraire et participe à des compétitions de danse de bal !
