The 2024 SSNAP Artist Residency will be held on Salt Spring Island for a 15–25 day period between March and October 2024. The recipient will receive $6,000 for expenses. Should a Salt Spring Island artist be selected, the residency opportunity will be negotiated with the artist.

Fogo Island Art’s digital program Lost & Found Agency presents The problem of sandboxes and timeframes, a talk with Paul Kolling. In early 2016, Paul Kolling and his collaborators published a paper discussing “how a forest can own and utilize itself” and founded the Berlin-based art group called terra0 with the aim to readdress concepts of (land) ownership, legal personhood and democratic governance in the context of German ecosystems. Since then, terra0 has always walked at the crossroads between art project and business, ecological and economic promises, but ultimately chose the art world as a testing ground for its ideas. In this talk, Paul will look at this decision through the lens of several terra0 projects and draw an arc to a general debate about what art can do, if “art can do anything”.
