Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in 1982, artist, painter, sculptor, videographer, and performance artist Tresor Mukonkole sculpted his toys from limited resources during his childhood. He developed a passion for painting after meeting a painter in his neighborhood named Simambote. After completing his secondary teacher training, he enrolled at the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts in 2003, graduating with honors in 2006. Forced to leave the Democratic Republic of Congo due to his views, which some considered unconventional, he sought to shed light on the often-overlooked realities of his youth, highlighting the neglect and decay of certain parts of Kinshasa. His career, which has flourished not only in the Democratic Republic of Congo but also internationally, is an artistic journey marked by a constant exploration of materials and techniques.
