I am an Indo-Canadian interpreter and artist living in Montreal.
My journey as an artist started in India when I was in my teens, but when I emigrated to Montreal in the late 70s, I had to put my passion for art aside – temporarily – to focus on my new life and raising my two children.
Today, my art – both paintings and poetry – is largely influenced by the displaced people I encounter as an interpreter for asylum seekers and new immigrants. I channel their chaos, beauty, pain, struggles as well as my own life experiences through my art. I work mainly with acrylic but also with inks, markers and watercolours, using anything from brushes to palette knives to sponges to just about any material I can find in my home.
I feel privileged to have exhibited my art across Montreal, in Toronto and most recently, in Tokyo. My paintings and poetry have also been published in Blank Spaces, a Canadian Literary Arts magazine.
