For me, painting is first and foremost an exercise in resilience; being able to absorb the doubt, welcome the unexpected, reorganize oneself, and continue. It is also recognizing and, above all, accepting the intrinsic nature of the different mediums, in order to happily inhabit this territory of hope that is the canvas or paper.

Any creative act propels us towards the future; it arouses hope, it sustains it…

My work always begins with a desire for color; one day it’s pink, the next day it’s blue, yellow or green…
I use several mediums: oil, acrylic, gouache, oil pastels, oil sticks…
Lately, my paintings are created 'alla prima', a process where I apply the paint spontaneously with my fingers, a spatula, or a brush. The result is a richly textured surface, filled with traces of a human hand.

Practicing abstract art gives me a feeling of freedom.

Montreal-born artist, Nathalie Lapierre is a graduate of Concordia University's fine arts program. Her two decades of experience as a children's illustrator and floral designer have shape her artistic expression towards abstract painting.
