Kathryn Gabinet-Kroo is originally from the Pacific Northwest and grew up revelling in Oregon’s flowers, trees, beaches and mountains. After university, she studied black-and-white photography in Boston and then found her way to Montreal. There, Kathryn began to experiment with watercolours and oils, which opened her up to colour. A self-taught painter, she developed her own realist techniques. The repetition of patterns found in nature remains a constant in this artist’s work.

Kathryn has exhibited across the U.S. and Canada and taught at the Saidye Bronfman Centre until the school’s closing in 1996. She is also a published literary translator and competitive ballroom dancer!
